The Center for Data Analysis reports that peer influence is one of the greatest determinants impacting students' academic achievement. Studies found that peer relationships result in shared values and common academic performance goals. Some researchers believe that peers are "the single most potent source of influence" in major areas of development.

In fact, a survey by Parent Further found that 90% of students claim that their peers have influenced them. Given the likely influence of a child's peers, parents not only have the right to be concerned about their child's friendships, but they also have a responsibility to do so. Encouraging positive peer relationships is important to academic success, which is the foundation that will follow students throughout their lives.
